The Lion Community Learning Center, otherwise known as the "LCLC" is NOW OPEN for all high school students! The center is located in the small remodeled building next to the district admin office (across from the Western Benton County Career Center). The LCLC is supervised by Lisa Milton who was a full-time teacher at GHS for many years and is now currently a part-time substitute teacher for the school district and the director of the learning center. The center is an after-school hours space that will be available for high school students to study, do homework, work on group projects, access the Internet, access resources needed for school success, and receive support from a caring adult! Tutoring in specific subject areas will be available soon. The center will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-8:00pm. Transportation is available for students who need a way to get there after school. They will ride the Route 9 bus. If students want to ride this specific bus, they must sign up with Ms. Griffith in the front office of the high school. In order to ensure enough space, only students who have signed up in the office will be allowed to ride the Route 9 bus to the Center. Students must find their own way home once they leave the LCLC - no transportation will be provided.

The Environmental Club partners with Neighbors NWA to recycle at the high school! Recycling bins and boxes are placed in teachers' classrooms and students and club members collect on Thursdays and Fridays during Enrichment. This recycling program serves as an opportune and impactful service learning opportunity by empowering students to take an active role in environmental stewardship. Engaging in recycling initiatives fosters a sense of responsibility towards the planet while teaching valuable lessons about sustainability, resource management, and the interconnectedness of global issues. Through hands-on participation, students not only contribute tangibly to their community but also develop critical thinking skills as they explore solutions to real-world environmental challenges, making a lasting impact on both their immediate surroundings and their broader perspective on sustainability. Keep up the great work, students!

Over the past semester, several of our staff members have teamed up to help guide and coach a recreational soccer league! Mr. Griffith and Ms. Smith have led this group of boys, along with two other teams, to success! Mr. Quintana, a 2nd-grade teacher at Glenn A. Duffy Elementary, has been coaching the girl's soccer team with equal success. All three coaches have instilled discipline and sportsmanship in these athletes through rigorous training and competition. Not pictured is another 30 middle school-aged boys who competed as well. Our teachers love walking alongside our community to provide further opportunities for our students!

Coach Pittman's outdoor pursuits class ventured outside to practice their fire-building skills! 🔥 And obviously, you have to test the quality of the fire by making smores. It's a no-brainer. 😋
