A monstrous collaboration between Glenn Duffy Elementary and Gravette Middle School happened this week! Mrs. Brown’s elementary art students and Mrs. Renaud’s Middle School Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) students turned imagination into reality. FACS students hand-sewed exact replicas of the younger art students' monster designs, transforming drawings into adorable, huggable dolls!
Mrs. Rutledge’s 2nd-grade and Mrs. Hartman’s Kindergarten students designed monsters full of personality in art class. After that, Mrs. Renaud’s FACS students spent three weeks perfecting their sewing and crafting skills to create handmade plush dolls based on these designs.
“The big kids went above and beyond my expectations, The monsters were FABULOUS! ” said Mrs. Renaud. “We got to take them down to their classrooms and let the kids open their surprise! The smiles and hugs from everyone in the room were the perfect way to this sewing unit! The big kids are already asking when they can go see their little ones again!”
Mrs. Renaud came up with a truly adorable project idea for her FACS class. She was able to prepare students with life skills while connecting them to their community. Thank you to Mrs. Renaud and also to Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Rutledge, and Mrs. Hartman for this unforgettable mixed-media monster mash-up!
