Gravette Upper Elementary is committed to listening to parents and community members with the goal of making decisions in the best interest of children. As in any professional organization, we want our staff to treat all adults with respect and patience. We, in return, expect the same courtesy from parents and/or community members. We understand that we are accountable for the provision of a quality educational experience for students, but we also recognize that educating and training students is a shared responsibility involving schools, parents, and the community at large.

Chain of communication

When a parent has an issue with the actions of a teacher, an occurrence in the classroom, or some other school-related event, the parent should:

  1. First contact the teacher directly either by emailing, calling, or setting up an in-person meeting.

  2. If the teacher does not respond within a reasonable amount of time (within five business days), the next step is to contact a building administrator - Principal, Dr. Barrett.

  3. If the parent has spoken to the building principal and is not satisfied with the results of the conversation(s), the parent can contact the admin office and speak to the Assistant Superintendent - Rebecca Andrews.

  4. Fourth: if still not satisfied, the parent can contact the Superintendent.

Counseling

School counselors help children in many ways, including by being student advocates, promoting positive attitudes among students toward themselves, their family, their peers, and their community, providing support during crises, and working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and the community to identify and remove barriers to learning. All of our district's counselors work to support students socially and emotionally, academically, and with future career exploration. If there are any areas of concern that you have regarding your child’s school experience, please do not hesitate to contact or meet with your child's counselor.
